Clint Eastwood to receive French Legion of Honor award

85779693

Clint Eastwood will be named commander of the French Legion of Honor on Friday by President Nicolas Sarkozy. The award is one of that country’s greatest honors and is divided into five classes: chevalier (or knight), officier (officer), commandeur (commander), grand officier and grand’croix (grand cross). Traditionally, foreign directors and talent are named chevalier or officier, but Eastwood’s cultural stature has elevated him to commander status. The ceremony will take place at the Elysees Palace, the country’s government headquarters.

Eastwood will return to France to accept the honor; he recently completed filming there for his next feature, the supernatural thriller “Hereafter” with Matt Damon (who also stars in Eastwood’s Dec. 11 release, “Invictus,” with Morgan Freeman).
