Two Banners from 'THE LAST AIRBENDER'

January 25, 2010 Leave a comment

M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming and slightly racist-looking, The Last Airbender, has two new character banners with one featuring the hero, Aang (Noah Ringer) and the other with the (apparent) villain Zuko (Dev Patel).  As you’ll see Aang is white as the driven snow and Zuko, not so much.  And if you’re wondering if all of my Last Airbender stories will harp on the racial aspect, the answer is, “Yeah, probably.”  Shyamalan has taken an acclaimed animated show featuring characters of various East Asian descent and made all the heroes white while the villain gets to be played by a (great) Indian actor.  This is particularly bizarre since Shyamalan is, you know, Indian.  So unless he’s planning a twist where it turns out all the good guys were villains and all the villains are good guys, he’s making a movie that may not be as dumb as The Happening (that’s a really tough bar to clear), but could be a much bigger middle finger to fans of the show, fans who are mostly kids.  Maybe those kids won’t care about the whitewashing, and hey, is it really so important that kids who aren’t white have heroes they can identify with?  Who doesn’t like white people?

Hit the jump to check out both character banners along with the official synopsis.  Presumably, we’ll eventually be getting two more featuring the other major characters, Katara (Nicola Peltz) and Sokka (Jackson Rathbone).  The Last Airbender hits theaters on July 2nd.  I hope it’s not as racist as it looks.

Posters come courtesy of Yahoo! Movies.

For those just tuning in, here’s the official synopsis:

Air, Water, Earth, Fire. Four nations tied by destiny when the Fire Nation launches a brutal war against the others. A century has passed with no hope in sight to change the path of this destruction. Caught between combat and courage, Aang (Noah Ringer) discovers he is the lone Avatar with the power to manipulate all four elements. Aang teams with Katara (Nicola Peltz), a Waterbender, and her brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), to restore balance to their war-torn world.

Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film “The Last Airbender” is the opening chapter in Aang’s struggle to survive.

Kick-Ass movie image - slice of poster.jpg

There’s an awesome new poster for Matt Vaughn’s Kick-Ass.  It features Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson) surrounded by his cohorts: Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz), and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and they’re all splattering color onto the Watchmen-like background.  Underneath the characters is the slogan, “Shut up.  Kick-Ass.” which may go down as the best tagline ever.  Kick-Ass comes out April 16 and judging by the posters and the insanely good Hit Girl trailer, it’s going to be one hell of an entertaining movie.

Check out the new Kick-Ass poster and all the posters that have been released so far after the jump.

Thanks to for finding the poster on the official Kick-Ass website.

Courtesy of IMPAwards, the world’s best movie poster site ever, we have three new posters for Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, Shawn Levy’s Date Night, and Martin Campbell’s Edge of Darkness.  The Kick-Ass poster feature Chloe Moretz as “Hit-Girl” and completes the set of the previously released posters.  The Date Night poster is so plain that they just took an image we’ve already seen, slapped a gray background and the movie’s titled on it, and went about their business.  Still, people love Steve Carell and Tina Fey so what more do you really need?  And finally, the poster for Edge of Darkness tells us that few escape justice, none escape vengeance, and Mel Gibson can’t escape motion blur.

Hit the jump to check out all the posters plus a brief synopsis on each film.

[We’ve updated the Kick-Ass poster with a larger version courtesy of IGN]

Here’s the synopsis for Kick-Ass, which hits theaters on April 16, 2010.

“Kick-Ass” tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name — Kick-Ass — assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.

His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit-Girl (Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Cage).

And here’s the synopsis for Date Night, which hits theaters on April 9, 2010.

Dragged down by the daily grind, suburbanites Phil (Steve Carell) and Claire (Tina Fey) try to put the spark back in their marriage by visiting a trendy Manhattan bistro. They get more than they bargained for when a case of mistaken identity hurtles them into an incredible adventure involving corrupt cops, a mob boss and a crazed cab driver.

Finally, here’s the synopsis for Edge of Darkness, which hits theaters on January 29, 2010.

Thomas Craven is a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and a single father. When his only child, 24-year-old Emma, is murdered on the steps of his home, everyone assumes that he was the target. But he soon suspects otherwise, and embarks on a mission to find out about his daughter’s secret life and her killing. His investigation leads him into a dangerous looking-glass world of corporate cover-ups, government collusion and murder — and to shadowy government operative Darius Jedburgh who has been sent in to clean up the evidence. Craven’s solitary search for answers about his daughter’s death transforms into an odyssey of emotional discovery and redemption.

Poster – 'INCEPTION' Starring Leonardo DiCaprio

December 15, 2009 Leave a comment

Like it did for The Dark Knight, the viral campaign for Christopher Nolan’s Inception is clearly going to count for something, because today the game began and the reward for beating the first stage was the teaser poster for the film.  As Steve reported on Sunday, the spinning top on the film’s official website, which had been spinning since August 21st when the website first launched on August 21st, began to wobble.  Well now the top has toppled over and users are now directed to a new website:  Solve the puzzle and you get to see the teaser poster…or you could just hit the jump to see it now.

Inception is slated to hit theaters on July 16, 2010.

Movie Poster – 'Iron Man 2' Whiplash

December 10, 2009 Leave a comment

A third Iron Man 2 poster has appeared online and we have it for you!

If you haven’t yet checked out the Iron Man 2 posters featuring Iron Man and War Machine or “dark Tony Stark,” be sure to go HERE and HERE and have a look! As for this latest poster, it features Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash looking ready and willing to take down his great nemesis, Iron Man.

The hi-res version of the poster (which we also have for you) reveals the same backroom setting we’ve seen Whiplash inhabiting in previous photos from Iron Man 2. You’ll notice  that the back wall is adorned with a whole collage of Tony Stark news clippings, suggesting that Rourke’s character, Ivan Vanko, really does have a major grudge to settle with Stark.

Also sure to be a big point of discussion: this poster only reveals the early stage of the Whiplash armor, indicating that director Jon Favreau and Co. are wisely holding off on giving away the full Whiplash design until a later date.

Check out the poster:

Can I just say: I’m really digging how they’re working these villains into the Iron Man 2 story in a meaningful, relevant way. From what all I’ve gathered, Tony’s dad, Howard Stark, may have had some dealings that caused problems for Vanko and his family. The theme of consequences for one’s ambitions seems to have carried over quite nicely from Iron Man 1, adding a dimension of irony to the fact that history will repeat itself for Tony and Ivan, as Tony’s own ambitions building the Iron Man armor are what will ultimately give Vanko the means to become Whiplash and seek his revenge.

Man, this flick is going to be a good one…

Only thing left to ask is: When is the Black Widow poster (featuring sultry Scarlett Johansson) going to arrive??? :-)

Side Note: keep checking back with us all next week! There are rumors circulating that the Iron Man 2 trailer could finally be arriving!

Iron Man 2 will be in theaters on May 7, 2010.

Final Theatrical Poster for James Cameron’s AVATAR

December 10, 2009 Leave a comment

The final U.S. theatrical poster for James Cameron’s Avatar has come online and while the film may revolutionize 3D cinema, it ain’t gonna revolutionize movie posters and we are treated to the almighty floating heads.  However, you’ll note that they’ve slightly modified the tagline to note that not only did Cameron direct Titanic, he also directed Terminator 2.  It’s funny how they decided to choose that one out of all his action films.  No love for Pirhana 2, I suppose.

Hit the jump to check out the full poster along with a synopsis.  Avatar hits theaters on December 18th.

Credit to IMPAwards, the greatest movie poster site of all-time, for nabbing this.

For those just tuning in, here’s the official synopsis:

We enter the alien world through the eyes of Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair. But despite his broken body, Jake is still a warrior at heart. He is recruited to travel light years to the human outpost on Pandora, where corporations are mining a rare mineral that is the key to solving Earth’s energy crisis. Because the atmosphere of Pandora is toxic, they have created the Avatar Program, in which human “drivers” have their consciousness linked to an avatar, a remotely-controlled biological body that can survive in the lethal air. These avatars are genetically engineered hybrids of human DNA mixed with DNA from the natives of Pandora… the Na’vi.

Reborn in his avatar form, Jake can walk again. He is given a mission to infiltrate the Na’vi, who have become a major obstacle to mining the precious ore. But a beautiful Na’vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake’s life, and this changes everything. Jake is taken in by her clan, and learns to become one of them, which involves many tests and adventures. As Jake’s relationship with his reluctant teacher Neytiri deepens, he learns to respect the Na’vi way and finally takes his place among them. Soon he will face the ultimate test as he leads them in an epic battle that will decide nothing less than the fate of an entire world.

Iron Man 2 Movie Poster: War Machine Revealed

November 30, 2009 Leave a comment

Posted on Monday, November 30th, 2009 by Peter Sciretta

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment have premiered the first official movie poster for Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 on Yahoo. A poster usually means that a trailer isn’t far off. The new poster plays off the number 2 and features Iron Man back-to-back with War Machine.  Favreau previously hinted on his twitter account that we might see the first trailer for Iron Man 2 attached to Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, which hits theaters on Christmas Day. Check out the full poster below.

Iron Man 2 Movie Poster

Here is what we know about the film so far:

  • Sam Rockwell plays a fast-talking weapons manufacturer named Justin Hammer, “who fancies himself the next Tony Stark”. He sells Stark the weapons he uses to construct War Machine.
  • Mickey Rourke plays Russian criminal Vanko, who creates his own battle-suit while incarcerated in a Soviet prison.
  • Whiplash’s suit “shoots devastating, whip-like beams.”
  • Hammer and Whiplash join forces to take on Stark/Iron Man.
  • Scarlett Johansson plays Russian superspy Natasha Romanoff (aka the Black Widow), who is hired as Stark’s assistant which inevitably sparks romantic tension between Stark and former assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), who’s been promoted to CEO of Stark Industries.
  • Tony is trying to learn more about his father’s mysterious past, specifically the Stark Expo, which must “play a major role in the energy crisis, which is a chief issue in the film.”

Iron Man 2 will hit theaters on May 7th 2010.
